The universe resembles nothing is an exploration of the margins of our ontological and societal structure. A call for destabilizing forces to question our foundations. A naked and anonymous body takes the center of the work to deploy all of its potential in a scato-sexual sonorous journey.
Taking the concept of the abject –as formulated by theorist Julia Kristeva- as a central axe, the question ‘How to embody the abject?’ was posed as an initial and catalyzing creative problem for the development of this work. Following Kristeva’s psychoanalytical formulation, the abject is understood as a destabilizing force capable of questioning and disrupting any order, system or norm; this implying both societal and subjective-ontological organizations.
Despite the abject’s impossibility to be synthetized into an object or a subject, the solo acknowledges the legacy of Abject Art -its themes and productions- as a strategy to achieve a possible materialization and/or embodiment; while, at the same time, establishing a dialogue with those who throughout history found in abjection a starting point to develop their artistic production.
Through a precise iconographic work, the piece awakens and travels through shared imaginaries while willingly disrupting them. Shifting from the known to the unknown, from empathy to disgust, from desire to rejection. Is in the articulation of image and sound –breathing, pre-language forms and word- that the body overcomes its mere actuality to deploy in multiple virtualities.
The piece puts the body in relation to themes and concerns present in the study of abjection. The distinction between the animal and the human -or the civilized; the monstrous; the loss of the human form; body limits and orifices; bodily fluids; the repulsion-attraction dynamic of the abject; social organizations of desire, gender and sexual performativities; are some of the issues addressed by the work.
